Add a photo gallery

From the “Photos from The Oregonian” blog you can upload single photos or zips, create galleries, and manage existing photos or galleries.

1. Resave your photos at 1000 pixels wide using FastStone or another photo-editing tool. Zip them up. (On a Mac, select all the photos and right-click on one of them. Then click Compress X files. It will creat a file with a .zip at the end. Now you’re ready to upload to the blog tool.)

2. Use the Impostor tool to switch to the photographer whose photos you will be uploading. (If you are creating a gallery with photos by multiple photographers, zip each photographer’s photos separately and upload them one zip file at a time.)

3. Choose “create gallery” from under the “Create” tab. Input a name, description, tags (but never use directional tags — those beginning with “@” — here) and category for the gallery. Please use all lowercase for tags, even proper names. This will help keep them more uniform across the site and will prevent duplicate tags. You don’t need to adjust the featured postion (that is reserved for photo editors).

4. Click “save gallery changes,” and then click the button to “add photos” to the gallery. Navigate to your zip file on your computer and select upload.

5. After your images upload, the image thumbnails, captions, bylines, tags (never use directional tags — those beginning with “@” — here) and sort order should appear. To change the sort order, click edit on the far right for each image. All images are given a sort value of 1000 by default. Images with lower numbers will appear first. So, you can assign them 1, 2, 3 and so on, or 95, 96, 97 — whatever you want. To feature a photo within a gallery, highlight the photo and click the “feature selected photo” button. To change the byline or make other edits to an individual photo, click on the title of the image to edit that asset.

6. To embed a slideshow into a blog, open a specific blog post (not in Photos from The Oregonian) and click on the “insert slideshow” button (it looks similar to the insert photo button).
