Grace Fuss, 98, and her daughter Linda Mayer, 63 (right) hug Leah Martin, 12.
Grace Fuss was just a young girl in 1920 when women received the right to vote. Now, at 98 years old, she is volunteering and voting for a woman that she believes can be president. Fuss, her daughter Linda Mayer, her granddaughter Christina Martin and her great-granddaughter Leah Martin, 12, are all spending free time working for Senator Clinton's campaign.
The family met Hillary Clinton 5 years ago when the Senator was signing books in downtown Portland. The women, including then 7 year-old Leah, waited in line to meet Clinton at Borders and have her sign her book, "Living History." Senator Clinton stood up to meet the group, commented on Leah's haircut and shook each one of their hands. To the surprise of everyone, Leah spoke to the Senator, "I sure hope you run for President someday."
5 years later, with Clinton campaigning to become President, the family likes to say that Leah gave her that little nudge she needed to run.
Mayer acknowledges that it's an uphill battle, but worth the fight, "there's not going to be another woman like Hillary for a long time. If she does not get the nomination we want to say we did everything we could."
